MANILA ELECTRIC CARS.

According to 'Engineering News' (N»w York) of 20th November tendersfor a street railway and electric lighting concession f< r Manila, Philippine Islands, were to be received by the Municipal Board of that city until 4th March, 1903. The concession will be for fifty years. The street railway lines will be thirty-five miles long. The street car fares must not exceed 3|d for first class and 2£d for second class passengers, both gold standard. The competition for the concession will be based on tie percentage, which must not be less than I£, of the gross earnings of the street railway, and of the price of the lights supplied to the city, which is to be paid by the contractors. The city is to have the right to buy out the company at the end of twenty-five years, at a price to be fixed by arbitration, and to be based on the net earnings. The fares are also to be readjusted at the end of twenty-five years.
