LONDON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 9.47 a-m.)
In the House of Commons a question was asked as to the recent incursions of a French force in British territory near Lake Tchad. Mr Chamberlain replied that as Britain had not in a military sense occupied the British sphere of influence when it was invaded by the French pursuers of FadlaQah (son of the Sultan Rabah) it was not necessary to make representations on the subject to a friendly Government.
[Fadlallah, in June, 1901, fled from the French into British territory. He was captured and killed at Bornu. Sir F. Lugard, Hish Commissioner of Northern Nigeria, despatched Colonel Morland in February last to make inquiries. This expedition, about which some anxiety was felt, returned in safety after installing a British Resident at Bornu.]
