RELIGIOUS TESTS AT UNIVERSITIES.
Press Association—By Telegraph—Copvrighi
LONDON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 10.30 a.m.)
The Council of King's College, London, have resolved, by 22 to 2, to abolish religious tests except for professorships and lectureships in divinity.
[The King's College was established by Royal Charter in 1821, and reincorporated in 1882 for the purpose of giving instruction in literature, science, and the doctrines and duties of Christianity as inculcated by the Church of England. Under the conscience clause adopted by the Council in 1896 students in all faculties except theology may claim on conscientious grounds exemption from attendance at chapel and at religious instruction.]
