OBITUARY.

A Napier telegram reports the death of Mr W. Woodhead, master of the Boys' High School, aged fifty. The deceased had been in charge of the school for fifteen years, during which time it had made great progress. He took a very active interest m volunteering, and was honorary lieuten-ant-colonel. He will accordingly be given a military funeral. A Maste.rton telegram reads thus:—'"Mr Wm. Rnberton Perston. ex-manager of the Bank of New South Wales, died at his residence, Bideford, yesterday." The tieceased is well remembered in Donedin. Many years ago he used to be. a nmholder in Queensland, loosing heavily by a draught, he left for New Zealand, and at Wanganui joined the service of the Bank of New South Wales as accountant. In course of time he became manager at Wangajiui, was subsequently promoted to the managership at Wellington, and took charge of the Dunedin house in January of 1891, holding the office until, in March, 1900, he retired on a pension and was succeeded by Mr H. Salmon. One of Mr Perston's sons is in the Bank of New Zealand's employ, another is a farmer, and his daughter is married to Mr Easton, who recently made a stir in the dredging world.
