DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.
The popularity of Dix"s Gaiety Company shoiws no signs of decreasing, judging by the large audiences who nightly fill the AJhambra Theatre. On Saturday evening the building was packed to the doors, and the performers, one and all, were accorded a most enthusiastic reception. The programme presented could not fail to meet with the approval of' the theatre-Wing public. It was well up to the usual •tandard of variety performances. One commendable feature in connection with the entertainment was the absence of vulgarity. In fact, patrons of the Alhambra rarefy have occasion to complain of the performers saying or doing anything out of the usqr, and while Mr Dix continues to cater for the public in the manner he has he cannot fail to receive public support. In Messrs Pope and Sayles the present company have two mirth-makers of a high order; whether on the "corner" or doing a "turn" togethejrtbey are aiways worth listening to. Apart from being funny, they both possess good voicesMr Sayles was encored no less than six times for his singing of 'Goo-goo-eyes.' The acrobatic feats of Messrs Lennon, Hyman, and Lennon fairly astonished the audience, who applauded this clever trio to the echo. The Lennon brothers also appeared in a. song and dance, which was well re'oeived. Miss Jeannie Johnson sang with much success, being recalled for both her songs—'Baby eyes' and 'By the fountain.' Miss Maie Marlow's fierio-comio items were one of the features of the entertainment, while Miss May Lewis also came in for her fair share of applause. Mr Alf Holliuid sang 'A bandit's life,' and Mr Leslie Forrest 'Loved Lenore' and 'GaQery and boxes.' Two amusing farces, in which Messrs Pope and Sayles took a prominent part, were also included in the programme.
