HARD ON THE PUBLICAN.

THE COMMONWEALTH HOTEL LICENSE VOIDED.

WELLINGTON, April 7. The Appeal Court unanimously allowed the appeal in the case of the Commonwealth Hotel at New Plymouth. The Court held that the pecuniary relations of the stipendiary magistrate (Mr R. L. Stanford) with his partner did not support the allegation of bias on his part, but that his letter, stating that on certain conditions be would grant the license, was likely to create real bias. The Court therefore cfuashed the license.
