Walker, the Minister in charge of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Department.”—The Chairman said that no further reply had been received —On the morion of Mr Robin, seconded by Mr Smith, it was decided to write to the Hon. Mr Walker, drawing his attention to the Trustees 1 letter asking for an inquiry, and staring that they would be glad to get a favorable answer as soon as possible. The Secretary reported replying to the lett-r of the Inspector-General of the Lunacy and Hospitals Department with regard to the ela : m for subsidy on the contribution of £7O from the University of Otago being refused by the Audit Office", and stated that he had forwarded a memorandum from Mr Gabriel Hodges, contractor for the erection of the post mortem room, in which he estimated the cost of the gallery at £22. He also sent a letter from the architects •—Messrs Mason and Wales—that ■ the price was a reasonable one. The contribution from the University Council was not made solely in respect of the cost of the gallery, and as the cost of erection was small in comparison with the erection of the building, the Trustees respectfully requested Dr MacGregor to again submit their claim for the subsidy on the £7O received from the University Council for the favorable consideration of the Audit Department.—The secretary's reply was approved. Mr A. Hamilton, registrar to the Univers’ty, wrote to the secretary as follows: —“I am directed by the Council of the University of Otago to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 24th August, and to reouest yon to communicate to the Hospital Trustees the hearty thanks of the Council for the expression of goodwill towards the Medical School, and for the careful consideration which the Trustees have given to'the matters brought up by the Comnvt'ee of the Council.—Received. Mr Hamilton also wrote asking if the Trustees would appoint medical and surgical tutors, and, if so, would the Trustees afford the necessary facilities for utilising the material available in the patients treated in the hospital.—The matter was held over for further inquiry.
