ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
To-day's meeting of tho Acclimatisation Society was attended by Messrs A. C. Bcgg (In the chair), J. Roberts, W. Sinclair Thomson, R. Campbell, R. Forrost, T. Brown, R. Chisholm, T. Edgar, and th« Rev. W. O. Oliver. Mr W. G. Morri.i, in his monthly report, stated that all the ova at tho hatchery were now hatched out, and tho fry all doing wi 11 He had commenced distributing tho yearling Looh Levens, and hid placed 400 in the Waiwera, 400 in the Kihiku, 400 in the Upper Waipahi, and 400 iu the Lower Waipahi. He had still more to distribute at Arthurt n and above the Uorgo. He had also delivered to Mr Deana 14,000 Scotoh burn fry for the Water of l.eith, aud had scut 100 peroli fry to tho Southland >oti.ty, ordered by MiTanner. As nearly all the fiy were now fit to distribute, he hoped uuri. g the next two or throe weeks to have a &irater part of them placed in the rivers. Mr Roscvcare, of Clinton, had made a complaint about one of the ponds leaking and flooding part of his land, and said it was troubling him some time ago, when Mr Deans stopped it temporarily. He (Mr Morris) believed tint to inahe a secure job of it the bottom of the pond where tho leak was would have to bo cemented, it present he bad the two-year-old Loch Lcven trout in this pond.— The report was adopted. The secretary stated that complaints had been made about netting trout at the mouths of the Taieri and Molyueaux l'.ivers.—The matter was left in the hands of Mr Morris to act. Mr L. G. Flint wrote that the cry from anglers up the Clntha was that shags were decimating those waters ot trout.—The Chairman said that all they could do wa3 to draw attention to the fact that the society offered a reward of 2s per head for shags. Mr W. Quin wrote i xpressing the hope that the society would move at next meeting re duck shooting opening on the Ist April _in future.—The Society came to tho conclusion that it was rather early to deal with this matter. On the motion of Mr Roberts it was resolved to write to the Southland Society asking them if they were willing to have a distinct olose season for this year and the year following. I
