ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Fiank Young, thirteen years of ege, was accidentally drowned at Warnock'a dam, Cox Creek, Auckland, while playing eaUjhing frogs. An inquest was held at Ohristchurcn on the body of Elsie Teflley, who, after being mis-nog for six days, was found in theim« on Friday morning. A verdict of " Fono* drowned " was returned. Alfred Heathcote, a teacher at Wairio, Was killed in a shocking manner when going home by train from Invercargill on Haiorday afternoon. He was with others in the 1 raar compartment of the carriage, next the brake van, and when the train was near the. Wallacetown station he rose and went out' side. Immediately after he was seen to fall, and on his fellow-passengers going ont they saw that his shoulder or armpit had caught on the brake-block of the van, and that he was being dragged face down over the ballast. The guard was alarmed, the brakes put on, and an endeavor made to attract the attention of th'e driver. As the train approached the platform Heath'eoteV body became disengaged from the brake' block, and the wheel passed over hie neck. Deceased was a young married man, an Englishman, and had been about tea years in the district, and may be remembered by educationalist* as the patentee of the roller blackboard. From the fact that a few spots of blood were 1 found on the platform it is supposed that his nose had been bleeding and that he fell when hanging out to let the drops fall clear of the carriage. The fatality, from the fact that the man was dragged a considerable distance, caused intense excitement among the passengers.
