OTAGO REGATTA.
On Friday evening a large number of persons interested in the Otago annual regatta niet at the Port Chalmers Hotel, Mr \V. Waters being oppointed chairman. After a lengthy discussion on the question of whether the regatta should be held on Jubilee Day or ou the usual one, Boxing Day, it was decided to fix on the latter, so that in the event of there beine another regatta held on Jubilee Day it would give the yachting and rownig men earlier interest in the aquatic sports. The various committees were appointed for carrying out the details. It is expected that this yeai's regatta will prove as interesting and successful bs those in previous years. Mr Fullerton and Kf Hendry were re-elected treasurer and secretary. The Committee are endeavoring to offer a jEEfI prize for a best-and-best senior.foul oared race, and should they/receive support and entries from the clubs in other districts they have no doubt but this will be carried out. Similar inducements .will likely be offered in the yacht race?. The Committee, seeing that such interest hag been shown lately at, Home in swimming, are preparing a p'rogrammcof swimmingevents wlrch should be well worth a journey to witness. It is expected to have the preliminary program me advertised at an, early date.
