The Dunedin Liedertafel entertained their male friends at a smoke concert last night, when the Choral Hall was well filled. A capital musical programme was gone through, the Liedertafel contributing the following part songs :—Soldiers' chorus from 'Faust,' 'Spin, spin,' 'The sea fight,' 'Fill the shining goblet,' ' Love and wine,' and ' He's the man to know.' The items were all successfully given and highly appreciated, but special mention should be made of ' The sea fight' and ' Spin, spin.' Solos were sung by Messrs J. Armstrong (' My dearest heart'), J. Dickinson ('The trooper's vision'), W. Manson ('The miner'), E. Eager ('Plymouth Sound,' encored), and R. C. Torrance (' I seek for thee in every flower,' encored). Mr James Jago took the solo work in the part soug 'Love and wine.' Messrs Jesse Timsonaud W. E. Taylor contributed the piano duet ' Tarautelle' (Tuddenham), which was encored. Mr Timson, the honorary conductor of the societv, wielded the baton, and Mr W. E. Taylor played the accompaniments. The arrangements were of a very .satisfactory nature", and the evening proved an enjoyable one in every way.
