MELBOURNE, October 4. The Minister of Defence has received a letter from Commander Collins, who is visiting. England, stating that the Imperial Government, with the view of securing- uniformity, of the arms and ammunition, used by the military forces throughout the/Empire, have offered to exchange or convert the Martini-Henri rifles used in the colonies for the MartiniEhfield. rifles and bayonets. The latter guns thave the same calibre as the LeeMetford rifles. Concurrently with this ho doubt, there would be a cordite-factory established in one of the Australian colonies.
