TO THE EDITOK. Sir,— l was very pleased to see the letter in your paper last night with respect to the carrying of bells by cyclists. It is a rule far more honored in the breach than the observance ; and I would like to point out to those who do not obey it that they are liable to a fine, and the sooner it is rigidly enforced the better for those who do endeavor to keep the laws in this matter. Over and again I have been startled by the sudden appearance of a wheel beside my own, with never a sound to say the rider was coming, and had I not been a cyclist of some years’ standings I should very likely have commenced to wobble and perhaps been hurt. As it is, expert though I can claim to be, I am obliged to be always on the alert for the riders who either cannot or will not observe this rule and that of the right side of the road. And while on this subject allow me to point out to the pedestrians who use our track in Cumberland street that if they persistently spread themselves all over the path, as they constantly do, they also are liable to be fined for not making way for us, as much as if they were on the high road. We have permission from the City Council to use this track, and we keep it in order; and if the pedestrians will run into danger they must take the consequences. Of course, I know there are many cyclists who will not think of anybody but themselves, and have 1 mo regard for any lives or limbs but their own. I am not alluding to them now, but to the many law-abiding members of our fraternity who use this track constantly, and are very much annoyed by the people on it, both men and women, who will not make way for them. Even though they ring the bell and give warning of their approach in a kindly way, they are only subjected to abuse for their pains.

In conclusion, I would also like to point out that the track is not the place for either very young novices or “ scorchers.” I have seen both on it at different times, and they are a constant scource of danger to all passers-by.—l am, etc,, B.M.S. Dunedin, October 1.
