CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, LEITH STREET.
The anniversary services were held on Sunday last, when able and instructive sermons were preached by the Rev, W. Saunders in the morning and the Rev, J. J, Lewis in the evening. There was a large congregation at each service. The anniversary meeting was held in the church last evening. The tea ,was under the presidency of the ladies of the congregation, whose energies were taxed to the utmost to meet the demands of an overflowing stream of guests. The public meeting ;was presided over by the pastor, the Revt. W: Fell, The report (read by the secretary, Mr R.'A. Gleland) of.the work of the church for,the past year showed that the congregations had increased both oh Sundays and at the week-; night services, and that the offerings had been considerably augmented; but, although ; there' Had''. been a r considerable increase .in the finances, ..which was highly gratifying, yet’ the amount was still insufficient to .cover the expendi-' ture. It was,, hoped.that with the increase of numbers which was’steadily, going on in a shorf time the chufch would be in a- very prosperous condition—strong both in numbers, and - The report referred- to the progress’ the choir had
made under the able leadership of Mr Pellett and the organist Miss, Bennett. ’lt also stated that the Sunday school and the o her institutions connected with the church were well sustained during the past year. • Addresses, bright, happy, and instructive, were* given By ’the Rev. Mr Fisher, Rev. Mr North, Rev. R. Waddell, M A., D.D., and Mr Duncan Wright, and anthems were simg by the choir at-intervals.
