AUCKLAND SHAKEN UP.
AUCKLAND, September 21. A very severe shock of earthquake occurred last evening at a few minutes after eight o clock, shaking the buildings and alarming the inhabitants. The members of a brass band wh'o were practising in the upper storey of a brick building rushed downstairs and did not .return. The direction of the shock was from the south-east, and induration was about twenty seconds. Other shocks occurred at eleven o'clock last night and/pne at 7.15 this morning. _ .Four, distinct:shocks of earthquake were feltatPaeroa last night and early to-day. There was a severe tremor at 2 a.m. No damage was done. .
