THE MIOWERA IN A STORM,
PASSENGERS BATTENED DOWN
mi. WELLINGTON, September 20. lhe Miowera was caught in a very bad storm on Thursday. Seas constantly broke on board, smashed in the dobra of the captain and doctor's cabins, wrenched away a boat from the chocka and threw it on the bridge, and flooded the forward berths, lhe passengers were battened down, and were not allowed on deck, and so furious was the storm that many gave themselves up for lost. After being hove-to for seventeen hours the gale moderated. . ThePakaki was caught in the Bame storm, and lost her binnacle.
