LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board, held yesterday, was attended by Mr J. P. Maitland (Commissioner of Crown Lands) and Messrs Dallas and Clark.

H. Birley applied for a renewa'- of bush license over five acres at Turners Creek. Dart River, for a term of one year.—New license granted for one year at £1 rental, with license fee of £1 Is.

F. J. Francis applied to be allowed to purchase for cash section 30, block 7, N&seby district, instead of under lease iu perpetuity as already granted him.—Declined. Joseph Meek applied for a license to occupy section IS, block 11, Woodland district.—Yearly license granted, under section 116 of Act, at a rent of Od per acre, with license fee of £1 Is.

The Lawrence Borough Council applied to have part of block 19, Tuapeka East district, set. aside as a dam site, and forwarded a sketch of the area and the proposed road deviation.—The Board decided that, on the county closing the existing road and furnishing survey of proposed new road and dam site, they will be prepared to recommend the reserve requested. Timothy Ring wrote requesting further exemption from residence upon section 71, Ardgowan Estate.—Declined.

The ranger reported that the following selectors upon the Tahawai Settlement were not complying with the residence conditions :—Wm. Rayne, section Sa, and Bartholomew Rayne, section 5a. —To show causo before the Board within fourteen days why their leases should not be forfeited. Ranger Atkinson forwarded a valuation of the improvements upon sections 4 and 6, Maerewhenua Estate, recently surrendered by T. and E. Gordon.—The Board recommended the grouping of the sections to be offered, with valuation for improvements £B2 Is, subject to approval of Governor. J. Robertson and others wrote in regard to the road to the village settlements in block 8, Glenomaru district.—Referred to the chief surveyor for consideration.

Alexander Watt ano? James Brauder applied for exemption from residence upon sections 22 and 23, block 4, Makareao Estate.—Exemption granted in the meantime.

The Board were requested to decide how the land recently surveyed at the back of Macraes town shall be dealt with.—The land in question to be offered as rural land ; ranger to valuo improvements on same and suggest capital value.

The following applications to transfer were approved:—J. H. Percy to Samuel Harris,, section 5, block 7, Swinburn district ; and F, W. Stevenson to David

Martin, section 55, block "1, Crookaton district. ■ .

The following applications to surrender were accepted, the •reofferei b* capital value of 103 per acre, with the /valuations that are set opposite:—Charles Koch, block 1, Upper Wakatipu district, seotiom 4 £lO3 10?, section 5 £lO 123. seotion 1© £2O 13a; Robert Elliot, section 21, £7B 17a ; Mark Harris, section 19, £l2B 12s. John Law, jun., wrote in regard to thearea fronting section 5, block 5, Maniototo district, over "which ~ B."Ddcherty hasteen granted a yearly license. Consideration deferred and license withheld frem B. Docherty in the meantime. William M'Combie asked that-he be allowed to withdraw his application for section 14, block 10, Woodland district, and that he be refunded the amount paid thereon.—Granted, the Board being satisfied that the applicant had mistaken tho section for another in the same locality.

-The Receiver of Land Revenue forwarded the names- of a number of yearly license holders who Save -failed to renew their licenses.—Consideration deferred.

The Under.- Secretary of Lands wrete stating that Alex. Gunn, lessee of smallgrazing run section 1, block 7, Silver teak district, desired to have section 2 of.the same block grouped with the run.—Declined, the area in question being a permanent reserve.

T. Chalmer, on behalf of Gordon M'Dowell, applied to be allowed to snirender his occupation with right-to-purcha£e license over section 41, block 6, Glenoraam district.—Surreuder accepted, subject to payment of current half-year's rent; ranger to make valuation of improvement?. The application of Henry Knoll for « license to occupy sections 6 and 7, Mock 2, Kurow district, was declined. The application of W. W. Reid to «emplete purchase of deferred-payment land, sections 5, 6, and 7, Waipori district, was approved. It was resolved that Mrs Isabella Dow, R. Whyte, and Mrs Janet Whyte, selectors on the Maruwenua Estate, be called upon to show cause before the Board, within fourteen days, why their leases should not be forfeited for non-payment of rent.
