A WAIL!
TO THE EDITOR. SIR,—A late night next Monday, extra heavy work all the week, a loDg day Saturday j and, although the Retailers' Association have declared a full half day extra for shop assistants next, Tuesday, our humane (?) and liberal (?) masters are goiug to make us work next Tuesday night watching their various shops. This action is altogether unfair, as one or two hours on duty will spoil our holiday and enjoyment. It i», moreover, an action altogether unlawful, as the Act provides that we are to get one day in eaoh week from one o'clock in the afternoon. Is the inspector asleep ? Our masters will be parading the streets with their friends and families next Tuesday night, receiving flowery congratulations for their beautiful advertisements, while we (poor slaveys, miserable and dejected, tied down in our usual prison house) are deprived of that small pittance which we usually get—a half-holiday. And all, mark you, readers, in. honor of our Queen ! No, forsooth ! that we might not mind, but all in honor of onr masters' pockets. People of Dunedin, is it fair ?—I am, etc., A Slavk. Dunedin, June 16.
