A SAD DEATH.
James Buchanan, a carter, aged twentyeight years, who resided with his wife and family in Cumberland street (near Albany street), was riding a horse along Princes street last evening, and when about opposite the Imperial Hotel the animal fell and rolled on him. Buchanan was picked up in an unconscious state, and remained so for about five minutes. On recovering sufficiently ho remounted the horse, which he was training for trotting, and proceeded on his way south. He returned home at about half-past nine, and after telling his wife what had happened he retired to bed. Mrs Buchanan, who stopped up with the children all night, paid a visit to her husband’s room at about twelve o’clock, when he spoke to her, but made no complaint. About four o’clock in the morning she again visited his room, and found him dead. She immediately sent for Dr Gloss, who at the inquest this afternoon stated that deceased must have ruptured some of the small arteries in his head, causing hemorrhage, which ultimately brought on apoplexy. A verdict of “Accidentally killed by a horse falling on him ” was returned.
