AUCKLAND, July 30. Proceedings have been instituted charging impersonation at the Auckland election. PALMERSTON NORTH, July 30. The men burned at the fire were Maurice Connell and John Deveney. The latter had recently arrived from Adelaide via Auckland and Napier. The hotel furniture was insured for £I,OOO. GISBORNE, July 30. At the Police Court this morning Thomas Lewis, of Nangaphapa, who recently charged the children at the Napier public school with immorality, was charged with failing to send two children to a public school, as required by the School Attendance Act. Two separate informations were laid. In the first, it was not proved that the name of the boy mentioned in the information was that in the notice served on Lewis by the School Committee, and the case was, therefore, dismissed. In the other case the Bench held that the defendant resided within two miles of a school, and ordered him to send the girl mentioned to some school forthwith. Cost (£2 11s) were given against the defendant.
