OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at the secretary's <tiice at 11 a m. to-day, and attended by Messrs P. Pattullo (in the chair), James Smith, "W. D. Stewart, J Angus, J. A. Stewart, A. Stronach, C. S. Reed J. Shiol, It. B. Fergusson, R. Campbell, B. Cnarters, J. Allan, J. Duthie, A. Todd, D. Bacon, and M. Sinclair. The Winter Show Committee reported that the entries for the forthcoming show, to be held next week, were very satisfactory ; but as they do not close until 9.30 to-night, a detailed list cannot be given. Mr H. E. Poatelthwaite, the contractor for lighting the building by electricity, has all the fittings in a very forward condition, and everything promises to make the show a very successful one. The Grounds Committee report having received a shipment of marram grass, and the Bandhills adjoining the park have been planted with it and no doubt in a short time the present unsightly barren face will be transformed into a beautiful green. Mr A. M'Faklane moved, and Mr James Smith seconded, the following resolution to be forwarded to the Minister for Agriculture—- " That this Society notice with regreat that Mr J. B. MacEwan, dairy expert, contemplates leaving at the expiry of his engagement with the Government, and would respectfully urge upon the Agricultural Department the desirability of retaining his services, as he has already done much to improve our dairying industries" Several members spoke at length on this matti r. and freely expressed their opinions as to the good Mr MacEwan has done, saying that he had gained the entire confidence of the dairying community. The motion was carried unanimously, and the secretary was instmcted to send a copy of same by wire this afternoon to Mr J. D". Ritchie Secretary of Agriculture. '
