LONDON, May 31. The weekly returns of the Bank of England show tho total reserve to be £28,460,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 63.50 per cent. Consols, 10tj|-. Three months' bills are discounted at | per cent. The market is steady. The following are tho quotations for colonial stocks :

New Zealand long-berried wheat (ex warehouse) is firm at 28s ; South Australian, firm at 28s 6d ; Victorian, steady at 28s 6d. New Zealand frozen mutton : .First quality, 3£d per lb ; second do, 2|d. Lamb averages 4id. The New Zealand hemp market is unchanged ; latest quotation, £l3 per ton. Sugar : German beet, weaker, 10s ; Java, quiet, 12s. No. 1 best Scotch uig iron (f.o.b. m Clyde), 43s Hd. Danish butter shows a decline of ss, and is quoted at 84s 6d. Australian butter is stead u v and the market is virtually bare of Victorian factory. Owing to heavy stocks of cheese the market is very flat ; Victorian averages 38s, New Zealand 40s. The poultry market is demoralised, the warm weather checking the demand Silver, 2s 6 11-lGd.
