Skirmisher has been nominated for the Wanganui Cup and Stakes. The Committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association have agreed to February 22 and 23 as the dates for the championship meeting at Napier. The Association's local officer at Auckland wrote stating that the North Shore Club had cautioned five of their members for suspicious running at the recent meeting. The secretory was instructed towrite to the men mentioned endorsing the local club's decision, and warning them that if they were reported again they would be dealt with severely. Goosander and Blarney have been scratched for the Wellington Cup. A Brisbane telegram states that the Queensland Cup was won by Battalion, with Trent second and Premier third. Ten started. Won by a length and a-half. Time, 3min 43sec. The cricket match played on the Oval yesterday between teams from the Railways and Post and Telegraph Department resulted as follows : —The Post and Telegraph scored 54 in their first innings and 14 in their second innings, making their total 68. The Railway scored 38 in their first innings and 30 for five wickets in their second (total, 68), when time was called, the match thus ending in a draw greatly in favor of Railways. Chief scores were as follow: Dobbie 19, Best 7 for Railways ; and Millar 18, James !1, Marryatt 8 for Post and Telegraph. Crawshaw, for Post and Telegraph, and Dobbie and M'Laren, for Railway, bowled well. Special mention Bhould be made of Weir's (Railway) wicket-keeping.
