Mr George Ford committed suicide at Scott’s Hotel, Melbourne, by stabbing himself several times in the region of the heart with a small Indian dagger. Mr Ford .was a single man, and about forty-five or fifty years of age. Ho was commonly believed to be possessed of considerable means, hut his bank book showed that that belief was erroneous. He had drawn £5 on the ,14th July from the Bank of Australasia, and. his account then stood only 3s Id in credit. On the day before his death he bad borrowed £1 from a friend, and of that 15s 6d was found in his pockets. Originally he came to Victoria from China, where he bad held some Eosition in Her Majesty’s Customs at Hongong. He was then possessed of considerable money, and ever since has simply lived upon his capital. He travelled about a good deal at one time and another, but whenever in Victoria he resided at fjjcotil’s Hotel, where be was well known as an enthusiast in racing, coursing, and other sports.
