REPLY TO THE EXPERT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In answer to your expert’s statement, that the judges knew all about the other teams, certainly they did ; but what I said was that they never judged them with the others. Besides, there were only two out of the four present, and one of them stated to me on the Saturday that he knew nothing about St. Bernards or Newfoundlands. Your expert says in reply to Mrs Poyntz that the Newfoundlands in New Zealand are only second-raters. Will ho be kind enough to give a description of what a really good one ought to be ?—I am, etc., W. H. Smith. Dunedin, August 16.
