FIRE IN A COAL MINE.

WESTPORT, August 16,

. News was received this morning of an outbreak of fire in the Mokihinui jCoail Company’s mine. It appears, that a quantity of small coal, fireclay, and iron pyrites, stacked. in one of the drives, technically known as “ Bord,” ignited spontaneously. The mine manager wired for asbestos, whieh was scut: out by special train. The train returned at 10 p.m. with the news that the fire was considerably subdued, having been cut off at four points with logs and clay, the air being excluded also, aud that it is not now anticipated that any serious results will ensue.
