The barque Bells passed the Heads bound north this forenoon.

Wellington, August 15.—1n reply to a deputation from the New Zealand Shipmasters' Association, the Minister of Marine 'promised to have a survey made of. the channel at Jackson Head to ascertain if sonic rocks could be blasted away, and also that he would have prepared a-report on the, Spames Island light, Wellington Harbor, with a view to its improvement.

Lyttelton, August 15.—News has been received here that the Coptic will not return to the New Zealand trade, her owners having decided to put her into the Pacific service to replace the steamer Oceanic.—The Kaikoura sailed to-day for London via Rio <lo Janeiro.
