SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.

The ladies' champion golf tourney was continued yesterday at Hagley Park, Christchurch, in miserable weather. Mrs Melland (Otago) and Mrs Wilder (Christchurch) are left in for the championship.

At a meeting of the Caledonian Cycling Club it was decided to hold a twenty-four-hours' track race on the .Caledonian Ground, starting at 8 p.m. on October 5 and finishing on the 6th at the same hour. The electric light is being laid down, and will be in readiness in plenty of time. As this is to be the first race of its kind ever held in New Zealand, it will no doubt create considerable excitement. The first prize is to be £4O (the largest prize yet offered for a cycle race in New Zealand), the second prize £lO, and the third £5. In addition a prize will be awarded to each competitor covering 250 miles or more. Previous to the start of the twenty-four-hours' event there i 3 to be a mile and a two-mile race for prizes to the value of £9. The secretary reported that donations to the extent of £l2 had been received. A letter was read from His Excellency the Earl of Glasgow signifying his intention of becoming patron, and one from Bir Robert Stout, M.H.R., accepting the presidency of the club,
