[Special to the Star.] OAMARU, July 14. The poultry show was opened to-day. There is a grand lot of exhibits. Dunedin prize-list: Poultry: Spanish cock, H. Lamont, 1. Pigeons: L. Hay, short-faced Antwerp 1, long-faced Antwerp 3. H. G. Williams : Carrier 2, long-faced tumbler 2, tumbler clean-legged 1, any variety of pigeon 1, blue dragon 1, any color dragon 1 and 2, any dolor baldheaded 2, any color beard 1, do short-faced Antwerp % do long-faced do 3. H. H. Wilson: Almoud tumbler, 1, 2, and 3, special long-faced do 1 and 3, do clean-legged, 2, any color dragon 3, owl 3, fantail 1 and 2, magpie 1, 2, 4, and special, bald head 2.
A child named Annie Hughes was ad* mitted into the hospital this afternoon, having been run,over by a grocer's cart at the corner of King and Howe streets. The Temperance party are arranging for a series of addresses by Mr N. Melville, M.?. (Chairman of Committees in New South Wales), who, it will be recollected, visited Dunedin on the eve of the last local option poll. He arrives by the next Melbourne steamer.
The sale of work in St. Matthew's Schoolroom was continued yesterday afternoon and evening, when a fair amount of business was clone. In the evening musical items were contributed by Mrs Williams and Miss G. Rattray. In the course of an interview on the question of drunkenness among women, a London police magistrate has expressed the opinion that it was impossible to effect the cure of habitual drunkards under the present system of fines and imprisonment. The real remedy was the establishment of a home to which they might be sent under a magistrate's order for at leas', a year. In America electric tramways have displaced thirty thousand horses. To explore Africa in a balloon is the pro ject of two French aeronauts.
