tXTSACT FROM A LETTEIi JUST RECEIVED FROM THE GRAND MASTER GRAND LODGE OF TENNESSEE, U 5.4., NOVEMBER 30, 1891. JUST on the eve of my departure for Liverpool, en route to New York, I received your present of 2 bottles of Buchanan's House of Commons Whisky. So pressed were wo by the arrangements necessary to onr voyage that I was nut permitted to open the package at that time, nor did I open it until I reached my home, when the presence of a few of my intimates at my houso refreshed my memory. I had one of the corks drawn, when—o, yo gods ! give me eloquence—we tasted the nectar, not degraded by water or sugar, but in Its native nakedness. My dear sir, language fails me to describe the smiles, the smacks, the uptumlnga of eye?, the sniffing, the wise examinations through the pellucid glass that enveloped it. To be sure you have such whisky, but there is not a drop of the like this side of the Fond; hence the other bottle is hid away in the darkest corner of my cellar, and it will be a more than friend that will drag it from its deep concealment. Aye, such a whisky, what cannot it peiform ? Believe me, It would " Make the coward fight, Give the despairing soul new hopes, Drive away the darkest sorrow, Surely; wretohes have by bumpers of it been taught A flow of words, a loftiness of thought." On the occasion of its trial In my library, it was the mirth that exalted the feast. Let me thank you, my dear sir, for the pleasure it gave, and also for that kindness of heart which prompted you to thus lay under obligations of gratitude the foreigner yon saw for the first, but I sincerely hope not for the last, time.
