CITY COUNCIL.

At Wednesday's meeting of the City Counoil Cr Fish moves much as doubts exist as to the proper interpretation of the following resolution passed by the Counoil on the 21st January, 1801— viz.: ' That this Council do now appoint John Carroll, Esq., mayor of Dunedin for the time being, one of the sinking fond commissioners for the City of Dunedin '—be it resolved that in future the mayor of Dnnedln for the time being shall not necessarily be appointed a sinking fund commissioner,, but that the Counoil shall be at liberty to appoint any councillor to such position." (2) "That it be an instruction to she town clerk fa annually, at the finfe ordinary meeting of the Council subsequent to the installation of the mayor, submit the

names of the whole of the City sinking fund commissioners for reappointment or otherwise by the Council." Cr Swan moves—" That the east end of the sewer in Frederick street get an Additional three chains built to it, to as to carry the sewage matter further seaward, and also to allow the land to be reclaimed."

The special business will be to make and declare the general municipal rate, and the water rates for the ensuing municipal year.
