Larceny.— John Avery was charged with, on the 19th January, at Mosgiel, stealing a scarf pin, value LI 10s, the property of Andrew Tweed. The accused pleaded guilty.—Chief-detective Henderson said the boy had been in the Industrial School since 1884. and was still in Mr Titchener's caie. He was licensed to a farmer at the Taieri, but he deserted from him, and was then employed by the present prosecutor, from whom he stole the pin. He came into town, pledged the pin, and gave his proper name and address.—Elijah litchener, manager of the Industrial School, said the boy was received into the school in February, 1884. In February, 1890, he was licensed to Mr James Haggen, farmer, at the Taieri, from whom he absconded. He afterwards returned to the Plain and got employment from Mr Tweed. AH the time the boy was in the school his conduct was moat exemplary, and he (the witness) was astonished to find him in Court. If the Bsnch would convict the boy and discharge him, he would take him under his control and have him chastised.— In view of this the Bench convicted the accused and discharged him. Breach ok the Peace. John Satterly was charged with using behaviour in Princes street on the 26th February whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.—Ser-geant-major Bevin said that this man was fighting with another man in Rattray street on the day in question. The other man was arre3ted, but this aocused got away. —Evidence to support this statement was given by Constable Hastie.—Accused stated that he was going along the street, when a man met him and attempted to strike him, He did his best to ward off the attack, and while doing so the constable came up, He was a miner by occupation. The Bench fined accused LI.

Breach of Bylaws. —John White was fined Is for allowing two hoi sea to wander in South Dunedin.

An Indecent Act.— John Hunter pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawfully and wilfully committing an indecent act in Adelaide street, South Dunedin, on the 20th February.—After evidenoe, the Bench sentenced accused to a week's imprisonment.— In answer to accused,, the Bench said they had no power to fix a flee as an alternative.
