TURF CHIT-CHAT. After the Champion Stakes had been run at Flemington last Thursday, Mr W. R. Wilson cabled to Mr Morrin, of the Wellington Park Stnd Farm, in these terms : "Amply revenged. Nothing bat shocking bad riding lost me the Australian Cup." Brown Alice, full sister to Strathmore, is under offer to an Australian owner. The reserve put on her by her Auckland owner is LI,OOO. At a meeting of the Committee of the Manawatu Racing Club on Saturday evening the following letter was received from the secretary of the Feilding Jockey Club:— " The laying of totalisator odds by bookmakers at race meetings having become such a serious nuisance, and being detrimental to the interests of racing, my Committee have determined to use every effort to stop it in future, and I am instructed to communicate with your club and ask your co-operation in the matter." It was unanimously decided to co-operate with the Feilding Club in getting rid of these " walking totalisators," and the secretary was instructed to write to the Metropolitan Club inquiring how far the power of the olub extended in this respect. The Admiral. SWIMMING TOURNAMENT. The annual swimming tournament in connection with the Port Chalmers District High School was held in the Corporation baths, and proved very successful, though the entries for some of the events were not very numerous. During the aftornoon an exhibition of the method of restoring the apparently drowned was given by Imrie, M'Queen, and S. Allen. Mr Bsssenoe acted as starter, and Mr Chilton as judge. The prizes for the swimming tournament and also for the athletic sports, which were held at the end of last year, were distributed by Mr John Morgan, chairman of the School Committee, on Wednesday afternoon in the school playground. The silver medal for the beat athlete on land was won by John Gordon, and the rector's medal for the best all-round swimmer was won by Robert Fullerton.
