ASHBURTON, March 11.

A threshing-maohine hand, James ChalJ mers, aged twenty-seven, a single man, was killed at Cbertsey last night. He had taken off the feed-board to clear the loose straw, the engine still going, when he stepped into the drum. His leg was torn from the body at the hip, and passed through the machine, He survived nearly six hours, and died in the Ashburton Hospital. A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned at the inquest.
