Owing to the rapid expansion of the trade of this port, the Bluff Harbor Board have increased the salaries of several of their officers, and are considering the question of appointing an assistant harbor-master. At present freezing operations are going on at J. G. Ward and Co.'a new works at the Ocean Beaoh, at the Southland Frozen Company's works, and on the hulk Edwin Fox at the Bluff; while the new works at Mataura, which cost L 13.000, are completed. The Star of England, now loading, takes 16,000 carcasses, besides a large quantity of general produce; and within two weeks other two frozen meat carriers arrive.
