In a letter written from Ohristohuroh to friend in Dunedin Colonel Bailey says i—" I was delighted above measure to get my first glimpse at the Maori warfare, and had a very wonderful time when visiting Otaki, The Natives gave me a magnificent reception, the tea and meeting which followed in a large wharepuni being something almost beyond description.
