LICENSING COMMITTEES.

St. Kilda Pabk.—At the quarterly meeting of the St. Kilda Park Licensing Committee, held at the Council Chambers, and attended by Messrs Gourley (chairman), Farrell, and Adam, an application was received for the transfer of the license of the Racecourse Hotel from William Gibson to Thomas Cuttle.—Sergeant Mulville objected to the transfer being granted on the ground that Mr Cuttle had been harboring prostitutes on the premises.—Mr Onttle Bt&ted that one woman to whom reference had been made by the police was not well, and had been recommended by a medical man to go to the seaside, but be had sent her away after she had been two days in the bouse. With regard to another woman who had been staying at the hotel be thought she was respectable when she oame there, hut ho had now sent ber away. He assured the Committee that no woman of the same class would be allowed to stay at the hotel in future.—The Committee granted the transfer for three months, on the distinct understanding that if an unfavorable report waa received from the police with regard to the house at the annnal meeting in June, the licence would be forfeited.—The chairman commended the action of the police in bring-, ing the matter before the Committee, and stated that Sergeant Mulville had given great satisfaction since he had been on the Flat.

Caversham.—The quarterly meeting off the Caversham Licensing Committee was held last night, when there were presentMessrs J, Todd (chairman), B. Allen, and James application for a transfer of a bottle license from Peter to Robert Rutherford was granted.—Mr Ings drew attention to the fact that there was no lamp at the St. Clair Hotel, and expressed the opinion that if one licensee was oompelled to keep a lamp in front of his premises all should be placed upon the same footing. The clerk was instruoted to write to the licensee and intimate that it would be neceaBary for her to have a lamp erected.
