THE S.B. ELGINSHIRE.

LITTLE HOPES OF GETTING HER OFF. TIMARU, March 10 Another attempt waß made by the tug Mana last night to pull off the Elginshire, but it failed to move her. The tug Koputai arrived this morning from Dunedin, and the Herald is also at the scene of the wreak. A combined attempt to float the Elginshire off will be made at noon. Some cargo was thrown overboard yesterday, and to-day a line is being rigged to sling wool ashore, the vessel being near enough for this operation. A stiff gale from the S. W. blew for a few hours during the night, but fortunately the sea did not increase. The Elginshire is principally held at the port side and at the stern post Her propeller is out of water at low tide, and the engines are practically useless. There is deep water on the starboard side and a shoal reef on the port side and at the bows. The general opinion is that she will not be got off. Noon. The latest from the Elginshire is that a line has been fixed from the ship to the shore, but no attempt will be made to land wool until the trial to tow her off with three boats has been made. If this proves a failure, the ship will be lightened before a further trial is made. There is no communication with the vessel, and no information as to nor condition. Crowds are driving out to aee her. 4 P.M. The pull at the steamer this afternoon was useless, the lines breaking. Another effort will be made to-night. The Elginshire ia making a lot of water.
