THE RECENT UNIVERSITY RESULTS.

SO THB BDITOB. Sib,—The Rev, Chanoellor of the Otago University made a slight error iu stating that Mr Soott was the first Otago student to win the Bowen prizs. He should know that Miss Freeman gained that distinction in 1878.

The Chancellor is evidently anxiom to gloss over the weak points in the University, and so he singles oat certain departments for special commendation. I venture to think that whatevor improvement there may be is largely due to the agitation started in 1889 for reform, and to the alteration in the term system, to both of whioh oppoiition was long offered by the Chanoellor and the Council. The way to success is not to glosi over weak points, but to point out and strengthen them.—l am, etc., • QrjlDiM, Duucdin, March 8.
