STOCK AND STATION REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenoy Company, Limited, report for the week ended Maroh 9 as follows :

Fat Cattle—2l3 head were yarded at Burnside for this day's sales, representing all qaalitleß, several of whloh were prime. Doubtless, owing to last week's entry being rather below the average in respect to number, the demand to-day was fairly active and late rates fairly well maintained. Best bullookß brought L 7 to L 8 17s 6d; extra heavy, L 9 12s 6dj medium to good, L 5 5s to L6los; light-weight* L 4 53 to L 5; best oowb, L 5 17s 6d to L 7; medium, L4[ss to L 6 ss; light, L2 17s6dto L 3 17s 6d. We sold 44 head for the following vendors:-Mr Thomas Drummond (Inverkeith), Messrs Wilson Bros. (Otakau), Mr John M'Auley (Portobello), Mr John Anderson (Upper Junotlon), Mr D. Sutherland (Loohend), Mr John Blaokle (East Taleri), Mr W. llndsay (Greytown)—bullocks to L7l7s 6d, and cows to L 515?. Fat Bheep.-1,793 were penned, including about 700 merino wethers, all ranging from good to prime quality. Tbe demand to-day again was confined to trade requirement*, an J, with thellmitedsapplyforward, competition was fairly aottve, prices showing but little difference from those obtaining la%t week. Best crossbred wethers brought 13s 9d to 14s 9i; ordinary, 12s to 13) 6d; host do ewes, 13s to 14s 3d ; ordinary, 9s 6d to 12s 9d; merino wetbers, 7s 9d to 12s 6d; quwter-baots, to 14s, We sold on account of Beveial vendors croBS-bred ewes at quotation?. Lambs.—l7l wero penned, medium quality for the most part; but the demand was good, pricei obtained showing an advance, and iangcd from 8i 3d to lis 9d.

Pigs.—29s ware penned, comprising tho usual variety, but ino'.nded a considerable number of very heavy baconere, which sold well. Suckers brought 7s to 10j 61; slips, 12s to 15s ; stores, 17s 6d to 20:); porkers, 233 to 27s 6d; baooners, 30a to 35>; extra heavy wtights, 40s to 58s. Store Cattle.—Grown bullocks, well bred and in forward condition, have a fair demand, but prices are ha:dly so firm now; doubtloss, when harvret is finished a levlvil in business will oventuate. Ordinary and mixed lots a»e not so much faquircd for, and transactions during the wo. k hrtvo been limited.

Store Sheep.—The market for these continues firm, and sales are being tffeoted week'y, when considerable numbers change hands at prices invariably in favor of sillers. The demand fur breeding ewes i 3 very aotive. Crossbred and merlnoes of all figep, provided they are sound-mouthed, and g'.-od crossbred wethers also havo a little more attention ; indeed there are buyers for all offering, and piio s being paid relatively very much higher than those obtaining when fat. On Thurtday, 3rd inst., we had a vory successful sale at Herlot. There was large attendance of buyers and others interested. Bidding was very animated, every lot offered being disposed of ft* aatiahflfoir? prf«» *• ««»"»*»•. IM fo11 ?*- ing lots were sold—viz., 550 merino ewes at 33 6d to 7s, 185 quarter-bred wethers at 7s, 500 cross-bred ewes at 8s 6d to lis, 400 crosa-bred wethers at 11a to 12i Id, aud 700 cross-bred lambs at 7s 2d to 9s lOd; also a few lines of cattle, pigs, etc., at full prices. Wool.—There have baen no advices of any special import from London since the close of the last Beries. The only business now done In this market is confined to small catalogues of station and back country oddments, with a few fellmongeis'lofs, all of which elicit fair competition at the hands of the local buyers, who always avail themselves of the opportunity to purchase whenever it occurß, and prices realised show favorable comparison with those lately ruling at Home qnality and condition considered. Sheepskins.—lnvariably a good demand prevails for these ; both dry and green have good attention. On Tuesday 1 as usual, we offered a moderate oatalogue, when there was a very satisfactory attendatco of buyers. Spirited competition was exptrienced for every lot offered, the whole being cleared at prices quite equal to those obtaining last week. Green oross-breda and lambskins continue to command the best attention, and full prices are paid for all well saved lote. Country dry cross-breds, inferior to medium, brought Is 9i to 3s 7d; do do merino, Is 6d to 2s 8d ', full-woolled crossbred?, 41 to 5s 7d ; do do merino, 3s to 53; dry pelts, 2d to Is sd; green cross-bred pelts—beet 2s to 2= 51, pxtra p<lme picked 2s 7d to 2a 9d; medium to good la 8d to 1b lid ; green merino pelts, Is 3d to is 6d; green lambskins—best 28 to 2s 61, mediam to good Is 7d to Is lid each. Ribbitfkins.—There is very little done in these in the local market at the moment. At this season of the year the anppiy is unvariably short, and even the Bmall paroels coming to hand are generally a poor seloctior. Notwithstanding there are buyers for all submitted, and under good competition full rates aro always secured. On Monday wo offered a moderate catalogue. All the buyors were present, and competed freely for all the lots, spring skins fetching up to B£d; summer do, 5d to 6d; suckers and hilfgcown, ljd to 3d per lb. Hide?.—The market is unaltered, and more than fully supplied with light sorta, for which satisfactory prices aro difficult to secure, heavy sorts being In most demand. Local tannors absorb all coming forward at prices although considered low by sellers aro still suffio'ently high to prevent shippers operating Quotations: For heavy In perfect condition, 2Jd to 2£d; 651b and upwardß, 2|d to 3d; average country hide?, ljd to 2d; light, ljd to ljsd; inferior and slippy, Jd to Id per lb. Tallow.—There is no alteration to report. Sales effected ore on the baßts of late quotations. A fair demand exists, and consignments coming forwrd are taken up by local buyers, and readily placed unless reserves are prohibitive. We quote beat rendered mutton, 18s 6d to 19* 6d ; medium to good, 163 to 18s; inferior to medium, 13s to 153; best caul fat, 12s 6d to 13s 6d; inferior to medium and good, 9s to 12s per cwt « . ~ Grain.—Wheat: We havo no further 1m- ! provemont to note in the tone of tfio market since date of our last Usue. There are Borne samples of the new crop now on the market, none of which can be pronounced piime, and will be diffioult to place except at prioeß which will hardly satisfy growers. The only demand oxistlng is confined ta some slight inquiry for prime old velvet, smailealesof which are occasionally being effected. Up to the present late quotations have continued firm, but it is anticipated Immediately fuller supplies of the new orop are on the market especially in the absence of a demand for export, which is hardly likely to set in at present, considering theaspeot just now of the Home market, that it will be hardly po'Btble to prevent prioes from receding. Present quotations: For Northern prime velvet, 4s 4d to 4s 6d; medium to good, 4<j to 4s 3d; Infouor to medium, 2s to 3s 8d (ex store, saclis weighed in, terms).-Oats: There is little or no change to report in regard to either demand or value since last reporting. A quiet busmen is being done on the basis of prices ruling last week A few purchases are being Emade for shipment. Millers are also showing a little more disposition to operate, but purota?eß for milling are only to the extent of supplying immeoiate requirements, with the view of being able to buy at lower priceß when fuller «>PV)i" are on the m»» ket.
