THE HINEMOA'S TRIP.

IO THE EDITOB. Sib,—lt ia gratifying to learn through the medium of the Hon. Samuel Edward Shrimski that ho and the other members of Parliament, and their wives and female relatives, who accompanied the Minister upon his recent trip to Milford Sound in the Government steamer Hinemoa at least paid for their "tucker." So far so good; but will the Hon. S. E. Shrimski explain why either he or his female relatives should receive a free passage on a pleasure trip at the country's expense? The U.S.S. Company's boats on their annual trip to the Sounds occupy twelve days on the journey, and charge Ll2 per head ; so that had the hon. gentleman and his party gone by one of their boats the proportionate charge for the same time would have been LlB which ho would have had to pay. He thus saves Ll2 by the transaction. It !b said that English men take their pleasure "sadly"; it is quite evident that the Hon. Shrimski takes hia " cheapiy." One other gratifying fact ib evolved from MrSbrlmski'sletter, and thatis: that if a labor candidate and workman's friend, such as Mr Earnsbaw (the member for the Peninsula) can ifford to pay, L 4 sterling for a week's board for himself and his wife, besides keeping his family at home, there would appear to be no necessity to increase the present honorarium ib order to enable working men representatives to live decently and in comfort. On the whole, although there may have been nothing •' fishy" about this trip, there was something decidedly " scrimmy."—l am, etc., Right Colob.

Dunedin, March 9. P.S.—ln order that there maybe no doubt about the matter it might be as well that the other members of the Legislature published their receipted accounts.— R.C. TO THB EDITOR. Slß,—l have been much amused and tickled when perusing the letters on the above heading which have appeared in your paper lately. The more so Mr Shrimski's of last evening, with hia little bill of L2 per head. las well as yourself, sir, will have to assist in paying for thia trip. If Mr Shrimski has done nothing more than to show that he has paid for his trip, it has been the means of the owners of the s.a. InvercargUl losing a passenger. I was contemplating a trip by the InvercargUl, but oh no I I will watt till the next trip of the Hinemoa, and will expect to be charged at the same rate, although I am not a member of Parliament. If not I shall demand a parliamentary inquiry.—lam, etc., Ad Referendum. Dunedin, March 9.
