MUNICIPAL.
Port Chalmkbs. —At this Counoil's meeting last night the Finance Committee reported the state of funds in bank to be : Debit general aocount, L 35 4; credit water aocount, L4l; acoounts to pay, L4l; total debit, L 355 9a 3s. The receipts since last meeting were LlO7 Is lid. South Dunedin.—At this Council's meeting last night His Worship reported, in connection with the protection of the Sandhills, that at the adjourned meeting of the ratepayers on Friday night it had been resolved —" That thiß borough agrees to contribute L 25 towards the protective works, and also approves of the formation of a board of workß, with power to rate up to Jd in the £ over Dunedin and suburbs." Cr Marlow moved and that the olerk be instructed to forward a copy of the resolution to the Boroughs of St. Kilda,. Caversham, and Dunedin." The motion was seoonded by Cr Henderson.—After a considerable amount of discussion, in which the idea of the South Dunedin Counoil involving themselyeß in any liability for the protective work further than a id rate was strongly condemned, His Worship moving as an amendment —"That the words ' agrees to contribute L 25 towards the protective works, and also' be eliminated from the report," The amendment was carried, Cr Marlow alone dissenting.— John Davidson wrote calling the attention of the Counoil to the state of Maoandrew road, from Duncan street to Surrey street, where the road was to a large extent under water.
