DEATH OF OLD STTLERS.
News liau reached the town of the death, somewhat suddenly last Saturday evening, at Cloaeburn Station, of Mr fingh Kirkpatrick, aged seventy-two, and for many years the head of the well-known firm of Hngh Kirkpatrick and Co,, Princes street. He arrived in Dnnedin early in the sixties. Mr Kirkpatrick was a man of retired habits, but as a man of business was greatly respected by the community and bis employes. For nigh thirty years he held the eldership in Knox Church, and was much esteemed by the congregation. His labors of love were numerous but without ostentation. He leaves a widow, four sons, and throe daughters. INVERCARGILL, July 13. Mr Joseph Preston, a very old colonist, the owner of the fine Forest Vale Estate in the Fortrose district, of 12,000 acres, and large properties in Otago, died suddenly on Sunday morning. When the family left for oboroh he appeared to be in his usual health, but during the service a messenger arrived for them, and on reaching home they found their father dead. He leaves a grown-up familyi end was a very successful colonist.
