The Friends of the Working Hen.

A number of the candidates who got fn by the aid of the working men at the recent elections have not half so much sympathy with labor as have Sir Harry Atkinson, Mr Rolleston, and other politicians whom they denounce as Tories whose sole objeot is to help capital to crush labor, and to make working men .virtual serfs. Indeed, any person who has watched the careers of the blatant demagogues who are eternally bowling about the rights of labor and the woes of the unfortunate working classes mußt have discerned how hollow have been their pretensions whenever put to the real test. It would be wise on the part of the Atkinson - Bryce party to unmask these hypocrites on every possible occasion, to strip them of the borrowed plumes in which they are so fond of strutting. There is not, and there never oan be, anything antagonistic to the true rights of labor in the mind of a genuine statesman, no matter what rank he may hold in the social scale himself. Capital and labor are inseparably interdependent. If they work together they will benefit eaoh other, but if they oppose each other both must suffer, no matter which may for the time being be victorious in the struggle. There is enormons evil wrought to both through misunderstanding, and it is to the interest of the political charlatans who trade On ** tliO WTODjfS Of the poor worlc«x»K nian" to perpetuate that misunderstanding, for were it onoe removed their occupation would be gone, and they would sink to their proper level in the aooial economy.-*-' Rangitikei Advocate.'
