Bush and grass fires have been raging in the country districts for the last few days, and a deal of damage has been done to the grass and grain crops, besides which numbers of buildings are now in great danger. A strong nor'-wester, which has been blowing, has carried the fire with astonishing rapidity. A fire broke ont on the Leeston show ground yesterday while tbe sports were being held, and great damage was done to the plantations. The women and children were carried to a place of safety with difficulty. The Maria Andrews Park at Rangiora was completely destroyed, the estimated damage being L3OO odd.
