A. Company can obtain interim dividend w&rrants for half-yearly period ended June 30. Tho results of the sugar beet industry in California are proving very successful. Last year some 2,000 acres were planted in beet, the yield being 13,r>00 tons, which on the average brought to growers 20s per ton. This price satisfied the farmers, who are going in for a much larger area this year. Manufactured at the Watsonville factory, the beet yielded 1,650 tons of sugar, taking nearly fifty days In the procens, Beet is giving far better returns than wheat, and Mr Spreckels is establishing factories on an extensive scale.

THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports that during tho week he has placed a lot of ploughmen, dairy peoplp, and odd country hands, and more are needed. Other lines are dormant; wages steady. BALE OF MINING SHARES. Messrs J. A. Taik and Co. to-day sold by public auction several lots of shares in Otago and Weßb Coast mines. There was a good attendance of hiddors, and competition was keen throughout the sale. The prices realised were satisfactory, but Island Block shires prnvod tho most acceptable.
