EXHIBITION RIFLE MEETING.

Sixth Day—Saturday,

“ A bad beginning has a good ending” is a proverb which may truly be applied to the elements as regards the meeting now being held under the auspices of the New Zealand Rifle Association, The weather to-day was simply perfect—there was barely a breath of wind, and the light was all that could be desired by the most exacting rifle shot. The firing began with the Teams Match, of five men a-side, which produced twenty-five entries. As all the targets are not available at the longer disthe conditions were altered from 200, 500, and 000 yards to 200, 300, and 500 yards, thus expediting the progress of the match. At the first distance the “possible ” was made by Sergeant Parslow (Auckland Artillery) and Mr Gulliver (Rangiora Rifle Club). It is worthy of mention that the last-named gentleman had not previously fired over the range, as he had been engaged all the week on the telephone work at A trench. The Rangiora team made the best score at this distance, putting on 164, or the splendid average of almost 33 per man. At 300 yards the Wellington Navals made 141, the Yarra Wonga Rifle Club and Kaitangata Rifles coming next with 136 each. Private Bashford, of the Christchurch Reserves, with 31, had the beat individual score. Going back to the final distance the leading teams were : Wellington Navals, 293 ; Rangiora Rifle Club, 292 ; Auckland Artil lery, 291. The excitement was great. At the 500 yds range, however, the A Battery ran clear away from all the other teams, eventually winning by 23 points. This result was due in no mean measure to the grand shooting made by Sergeant Parslow, the retiring champion, who made the fine score of 99 points out of a possible 105, made up as follows :
