THE EXHIBITION.
The attendance yesterday wa3 unusually small, comprising 1,640 paid admissions, 961 season ticket-holders, and 262 holders of exhibitors' passes, making a total of 2,863. In the concert hall last evening Mr Thomas Crook, of Christchurch, gave another of his limelight exhibitions. The orchestra gave two free concerts yesterday. M. Laruelle has added to the French Court a collection of jewellery, consisting of diamonds and the various other precious stones £.et in solid 18-carat gold, manufactured by the well-known firm of Dulartre, Amand, and Menez, Paris."
THE DOG-FACED. AND, CIRCASSIAN BUYS, Last evening Jo-Jo, the Russian dogfaced boy, and the Circassian youth were exhibited for the first time, and in the course of the evening large numbers came into the aide-show reserve, where the tent is situated, to gaze at these two extraordinary persons. The Circassian youth, whose peculiarities are a luxuriant head of crispy white hair and a pair of pink eyes, which—and this seems to be the most wonderful part of all—are continually rolling' from left' to right and back again. The owner greets each visitor cheerily, and has crtated-miibh astonishment by his powers of "second Bight,"'which .have in some instances res.ulied in some remarkable Jirognostica-, tjons being made, He ia a fluent speaker, i and explains that hjs companion Jo-Jo was! caught along with his father, who also was covered with hair, in the wildo of Russia. The father could never become reconciled to civilisation, and died Bhortly after being captured ; but the boy was cared for, and eventually became civilised. He was educated, and can now converse in several lan' guages; he can write his name very well, and £Un>ge%e£ ia a rn o at extraordinary beincr. His face' and and indeed his whole body, are ec-vered witbV ftaift which has teen pronounced men tjo be dwtijfctly i, canine. He is by ns means repulsive- : looking, and has kindly-looking eyes, which 1 have also a peculiarity that causes the spectators to remark as to his resenjbianpe to a dog. The show is deserving 1 of a viiit, ' and visitors need not fear for having their finer senses Blocked in any way.
