THE HARVEST AT OAMARU.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—Coming to Dunedin last night I noticed a letter in the Star, from one who signs himself "Working Man," dated Oamaru, warning working men from Dunedin and the South against going to Oamaru for the present harvest, and stating that the harvest there is bad and asserting that several fanners have turned their cattle into the crops. I would like to know if " Working Man" knows a good crop from a bad one, or a grain crop from a grass paddock.

I have travelled a good deal in the Oamaru district, and my opinion, after fourteen years' experience, is that there is a good average harvest this year. I have noticed no cattle in any crop except a crop of grass. Perhaps "Working Man's" ability at work is on apar with his knowledge of a good harvest, or he may be afraid that a good man from the South will be preferred to him in getting work.—l am, etc,

Oamaru Settler, Dunedin, January 15.
