PEIGHT AND OO.'S PRIZE BEER a. R. West, Esq., 135 Euston road, London. Dear Sir, —Being intimate with oce of the principal supervisors of excise here I sent him a few dozen of Messrs Speight and Co.'s Dunedin Beer with tho object of getting the opinion of the Excise Chemist on it; and lam glad to say he has pronounced it one of tho finest Beers he ever analysed, it having the high specific gravity of 10.80deg, the greatest amount of spirit and the least quantity of acid he ever came across. When I tell you that every shipment of Beer going out of the Clyde must be sampled by the excise officers and then analysed by their chemists, I consider this opinion is better than anything else I could say on it. At present the Beer is too flat to send to anyone not an expert in the trade ; but as soon as it comes into condition I will have it distributed. Yours very truly, (Signed) ROBE, MOORE, AND CO. (Per H. S. Mooro). A Correspondent writes : Please send me some more of that Speight's Ale you aro bottling. I am very particular ! boat the beer I have, and hitherto have had a down on "Colonial," preferring to pay the nigher price for the best brands of English Bottled Ale. I must confess, however, that what you have sent me pleases me in every respect as well as any I have ever used. Perhaps the great difference in price between 10s and 14s a dozen has affected my judgment, but I do not think so. At any rate, so long as you maintain the quality at the same standard you should be able to supplant the imported article. To John Barron, 29 Rattray street, RHEINGOLD CIGARS. following letter, which, among many L others, has recently been received, fully bears out the reputation claimed for the above cigars : G:and Hotel, Dunedin, September 23,1889. During my visits to tho colonies I have found it difficult to obtain good cigars at moderate prices. I have tried them at many prices, from 6d up to 1b 6d each, but without satisfaction. I did not think of trying below 6d until a few RHEINGOLDS were offered me, and after smoking them I was convinced they were very good cigars, and wondered I had not hit on them before; but on learning their price I understood why I could not get them in the best hotels. As an old smoker I can confidently assert that they are better than any cigar for which I have paid 6d in the innumerable hotels I have stayed at in the Australasian colonies. Frederic Maccabe.
